Bridesmaids are members of the bride’s party in a wedding including the maid of honor who is often a close friend or sister. She attends to the bride before or during the wedding. Roman law apparently played an important role in today’s tradition. It required ten witnesses at a wedding in order to outsmart evil spirits believed to attend marriage ceremonies. They did this by wearing identical dresses to the bride, something which can still be seen in Victorian wedding photographs.
The dress code changed, but like at this wedding I coincidently saw in Mexico City (Mexico), many brides around the world are supported and accompanied by a number of bridesmaids while taking “the most important step in life”. When I was standing at the entrance of the church I thought the girl was looking for the bride. Now I am not sure anymore. Maybe she was also paying attention that no evil spirit entered.
