Dressed up for Rice

After wheat, rice is the second most widely cultivated cereal in the world. Over half of the world’s population eats rice two or three times a day and if you pay attention, you will be able to discover rice fields in at least 114 countries. Incredible! Interestingly enough, China and India together produce about 50% of the rice on earth. Although working daily with rice, the women in the photo may not know that more than 4,000 varieties of it are grown in their country. I am sure though the vibrant green of the rice paddies in the late afternoon sun also soothes their souls.

One thing really struck me when I took this picture somewhere close to Bodhgaya (India): their dresses. Like if the ladies were on their way to a wedding party or being part of a bollywood movie. But maybe they are just dressed adequately for the beautiful scenery around them. http://www.mapsofindia.com/india-dress.html

Beautiful and, yes, surprising that they are probably dressed in their work clothes. Very colorful.
